We can all agree that the past 18 months have been brutal, and yet, here we are….emerging. The Failure Lab Resilience Series will spotlight and honor segments of our Grand Rapids community that embody the resilience of our city and its citizens. While the storytellers, organizations, and industries featured have undeniably shown incredible resilience in response to the pandemic, these events will not feature pandemic stories. Resilience is built through the ongoing trials and triumphs of lives lived moving forward. Failure Lab would propose that our individual and collective resilience is the cumulative result of thousands upon thousands of stories - all of the stories that have brought us to this moment of reemergence. Join us in the celebration.

Failure Lab is an international storytelling movement featuring community leaders who share the untold backstory and adversity behind their success. Don't let the name fool you - while the stories may be about failure, the event is really about courage, determination, and the strength to get back up. This event is a raw and intimate evening showcasing personal stories of failure. With a refreshing environment of openness, it helps pave the way for change by crushing the isolation and stigma around failure. Failure then takes its rightful place as the crucial first step to the next big thing. Embrace it, learn from it, build on it.

Each event in the series lasts for 1 hour and consists of 3 storytellers, 4 entertainers, and an intimate venue. The special ingredient is not giving lessons or sharing what happened after the failure. The audience is invited into the story and asked for their lessons. This crowdsourced content is shared via social media during the event.

The only thing as good as the show? The drink you have after

A few short steps from the Listening Room is One Twenty Three—our neighborly New American Tavern, serving hearty dishes with modern flare.
